As author Sandra Cisneros' poem portrays, there is beauty and much more than what the eye can see in everyday things like trees. In her poem, Sandra personifies the trees as much more than just trees. Her mature and unique perspective on trees allow her to prove her point and emphasize the idea of a tree being more than what it is usually considered. Sandra describes them as the only ones who understand her. She also takes note of their physical appearance; "Four skinny trees with skinny necks and pointy elbows like mine." When reading the quote, I was deeply reminded of the story, "Eleven", which also happened to be written by Sandra Cisneros. What Sandra does in Eleven and I believe also in Four Skinny Trees, is that she takes a simple everyday topic (birthdays, trees, etc.) and puts a unique twist on it. She looks at things in such a mature way that she could take diapers, for example, and write about as if she was writing about the most sophisticated undergarments in the entire universe. Given these points, I believe that Sandra Cisneros really wants her readers to not judge a book by its cover, because what truly matters lies on the inside. Beyond our point of view.
