A Light In The Window
By Ahmed Ishaque
Well, time to head on home, I thought,
Trick or treating is some hard work. As I walked down the oh so familiar road on the way home, for the umpteenth time, I got easily bored. So, to entertain myself, I started looking at the house.
There was Sarah's house and Vicki's house and Mrs.
Fatima who always made her husband give us food or presents if it was a holiday of some sort. Fortunately for me, halloween was included. I knew all the houses on our street, except for that one, I thought. That one is the old abandoned house, or so they say it is. My mom says an old man lives there but he hardly ever comes out. Suddenly, as if on cue a light in the house shone through the window. Thinking that I would be able to snag some extra candy, I went straight up to the door and started knocking. "Trick or Treat!", I exclaimed.
Seems like nobody's home, but then how did the lights turn on?, I wondered. Its an abandoned house, I thought. "The electricty probably, doesn't work," I said nervously and started to walk away. I would've kept walking too, but the front door started creaking open. Once again my candy greed kicked in. I slowly walked to the door. "Hello?" I said to the thin air in front of me. Nothing happened. I walked in and noticed the house was very nice. I decided that if someone was in here that they would be upstairs. I walked up the stairs, at this point I wasnt scared. I checked room after room but they were all empty. I realized how much of a dangerous position i was in. I'm in a stranger's house all by myself. But it was too late. I looked outside and saw a bunch of women huddled around a fire. Immediately I realized that the bingo club wasn't having a bonfire, this was something more. And I wasn't gonna ask what they were doing. I started running. Atop the staircase stood a little girl. I ended up screaming just like one. The thing was, she was levitating. I covered my eyes and ran out the door. Outside I was greeted by some lady who looked as old as my great grandma and the rest of the woodbridge rest home. These ladies were headed straight for me. However, being that they were about a thousand years old. I outran them with ease. I went all the way to my house and locked the door. And it was at that very moment that I woke up. My eyes opened and I sat up on my bed. I looked outside my window and saw the old abandoned house. Suddenly, as if on cue, a light in the house shone through the window.
Great use of how the story then started over again.
